Some EcoFlow products are now compatible with Transfer Switches

  • Some EcoFlow products are now compatible with Transfer Switches.
  • This will allow for connection of the power station to your distribution board to keep certain electronics and appliances powered during outages.
  • Transfer Switches need to be installed by a certified electrician and EcoFlow is bundling a Transfer Switch with some products.

As South Africa continues to battle with Stage 1 and 3 loadshedding this week, makers of backup power solutions EcoFlow has a new feature that make its products a lot more attractive.

That feature is compatibility with transfer switches, a convenient way for home owners to choose whether their home is powered by from the national grid or an alternate source such as solar power, batteries or a generator.

A transfer switch would effectively allow you to power more than just what plugs into an EcoFlow’s available ports and power lights, plugs and more. We would caution you to check the maximum output of an EcoFlow before using it to try and power your geyser which can draw up to 5 000W.

“”In the face of relentless load shedding, this innovation provides an energy-efficient and time-saving solution. Users no longer need to shuffle power stations or appliances around to maintain essential functions. With a single switch, power will course through your home circuit,” explains head of the Latin America, Middle East and Africa region as well as the Asia-Pacific region, Joy Wu.

A transfer switch can cost anywhere from R300 to R1 000, but you will need to hire a certified electrician to install this switch. This is because the switch needs to be connected to your distribution board and it can be dangerous if you aren’t properly trained.

EcoFlow says that its Delta and River products are compatible with transfer switches however, this is not true for the River 2 model. We suspect this comes down to the size of the unit as it’s only packing a 256Wh battery which isn’t really something that could power plugs lights and more for an extended period.

With that having been said, the River Pro, Delta, Delta 2, Delta Max, and Delta Pro are all compatible with this new feature.

To that end, EcoFlow is running a promotion where you can get one of its products with a free transfer switch. Granted this will likely only save you a few hundred Rands but at least you get the switch for free.

We’ve reviewed two of EcoFlow’s new generation of power stations which feature longer lasting Lithium iron-phosphate batteries. This battery tech can be discharged and recharged more times than traditional Lithium-ion batteries which, in the face of unending loadshedding, is great for South Africans.

You can read more about experience with these products in our reviews of the Delta 2 and the River 2 Max.

You can find the aforementioned bundle deals which include a switch over on the EcoFlow website here.
