The “free” PS Plus games for September 2023

  • Saints Row (2022), Black Desert and Generation Zero are your PS Plus games for September 2023.
  • All three titles are open-world action games and will be available from 5th September for download at no additional price.
  • The company has also announced a price increase for the 12-month PS Plus subscription plans worldwide.

August turning into September means Spring is around the corner, and that new titles are up for grabs for subscribers of PlayStation (PS) Plus.

From 5th September 2023, subscribers to PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium will be able to download and install three new games without additional charge. This month’s crop is headlined by Saints Row (2022), and rounded out by MMO Black Desert, and indie title Generation Zero.

Last month PlayStation faithful were able to download PGA Tour 2K23, PlayStation Dreams and Death’s Door. Subscribers will have until 4th September to keep these three titles before they are replaced by the new lineup.

The latest in the saga of the 3rd Street Saints is headlining the PS Plus lineup in September – Saints Row (2022) available on PS4 and PS5.

According to PlayStation, this is the largest Saints Row sandbox created yet by developer Volition. Players get to create their own gang leader to take on rivals in the “sprawling world of Santo Ileso.” The city represents all the hits when it comes to the series. Shoot, drive, wingsuit and basically do whatever you want in a war to take over Santo Ileso, block by block.

Saints Row (2022) also comes with online drop-in/drop-out multiplayer.

Perhaps infamous for its psychotically in-depth character creation, Black Desert Online has been quietly chugging along in the competitive MMORPG space, enjoyed by thousands for its action combat and sharp graphics.

If you’re looking to try out a new MMO now may be the time to check out Black Desert, especially as PS Plus is bundling the Traveler DLC items with the game this September. Importantly, this title is only available for PS4 players.

“You can also choose to dedicate yourself to a variety of pursuits, such as trade, fishing, horse training, alchemy, cooking, and gathering. The Traveler Edition is a bundle of the base game and multiple add-ons,” PlayStation explains.

There is no subscription needed for Black Desert, and the Traveler Edition comes with the base game, and certain add-ons. However, all the DLCs and expansions will need to be purchased individually. So consider this a trial of the game.

The PS Plus lineup for September is rounded out by a third open-world action game in Generation Zero. A first-person shooter from Avalanche Game Studios where you team up with up to three other players to take on waves of killer robots across a vast environment.

Build fortresses to withstand the onslaught and roleplay you’re part of the Resistance and John Connor has ordered you to defend an outpost against the Terminator threat. Except this time you’re in 1980s Sweden.

You must choose your battles wisely as you engage in adrenaline-pumping guerilla combat against these mechanical forces,” writes PlayStation.

“Scavenge parts from your fallen enemies and use them to craft equipment, weapons and ammunition. Build and fortify your own bases across the island and start taking back your home.”

Finally, PlayStation has announced that its 12-month prices for PS Plus subscriptions will be increasing from 6th September.
