MTN is readying for its annual Business App of the Year awards, with the deadline for submissions fast approaching.
Said deadline is 25th September, and MTN is issuing its final call for the event, which sees Huawei once again feature as a significant sponsor for the event that has been running for 12 years.
“Recognising and celebrating the local game changers of tomorrow, this platform continues year-on-year to uncover and celebrate local technology talent and out-of-the-box thinking that drives disruption and change,” MTN highlighted in a press release sent to Hypertext.
“The MTN Business App of the Year Awards has grown into the biggest in Africa, receiving over 1000 app submissions in 2022 with the winning app developer walking away with R 1 million in prize money,” it added.
The categories for this year’s Business App of the Year awards are as follows:

- Best Enterprise Solution
- Best African Solution
- Most Innovative Solution
- Best Gaming Solution
- Best Health Solution
- Best Agricultural Solution
- Best Educational Solution
- Best Financial Solution
- Best Hackathon Solution
- Best Breakthrough Developer
- Best Campus Cup Solution
- Huawei App Gallery Category
Last year saw Shoprite SA walk away with the top prize of R1 million, with applications that feature a unique local flavour always being favoured by judges.
“As we prepare for the 12th year of these awards, MTN Business is once again ready to provide opportunities for a new generation of app development talent and to uncover and reward Africa’s newest and hottest digital solutions,” MTN concluded.
The awards will happen later in the year.
