Nokia C22 debuts in SA for under R2k

  • HMD Global has made the entry-level Nokia C22 available to purchase in South Africa.
  • The phone first debuted at MWC 23 earlier this year, and lands in SA for less than R2 000.
  • The Nokia C22 features a dual SIM, 2GB RAM, 64GB storage, and comes in Charcoal Black.

At the beginning of the year, HMD Global debuted three new affordable smartphones at MWC 23 – the Nokia G22, C32, and C22. Now the entry-level option in that mix has landed locally, with the Nokia C22 available to purchase in SA from selected retailers, including Takealot.

Designed as a device that ticks all of the boxes regarding the basics, as well as boasting up to three days of battery life from its massive 5 050mAh battery, the Nokia C22 is aimed at consumers looking to make the move from a feature phone to a smartphone.

As such, the recommended price for the device is R1 799.

“C-series is all about packing maximum quality for minimal cost. And when it comes to affordable durability, the new Nokia C22 delivers better durability against drops, resulting in a robust device that you can trust to last and keep for longer,” highlights Adam Ferguson, head of Product Marketing, HMD Global.

Looking at the specifications of the device, it is sporting the following:

In terms of other notable features, on the software side of things, HMD Global confirms that the latest entry-level smartphone will receive at least two years worth of security updates. Here the company notes the fact that 60 percent of fraud happens as a result of poor phone security.

Lastly, the C22 will ship with a generic plastic cover, as well as a screen protector, which is becoming less common these days among other manufacturers.
