• Lenovo debuted a new foldable concept phone at its Tech World 23 event.
• The device features a FHD+ pOLED display that can be bent into a handful of form factors, including around your wrist.
• It’s unclear whether this concept will ever make it to production at this stage.

When you think about foldable technology, Lenovo may not be the first name that comes to mind, but the company has been at the forefront of this burgeoning segment within the consumer electronics space, having brought devices like the ThinkPad X1 Fold to market.

Now Lenovo is looking at a slightly smaller form factor, revealing a concept foldable phone at its Tech World 23 event, currently on the go.

“This new conceptual device uses a FHD+ pOLED display that can be bent and shaped into different forms depending on users’ needs. This adaptive display concept further builds upon the display and mechanical innovations from our foldable and rollable devices in both the smartphone and PC categories,” explained Lenovo of its design in a blog post.

Much like the X1 Fold, this concept foldable phone is designed to fit into a few different scenarios, with its flexible back and fulcrum-style hinge allowing it to be posed in a handful of unique positions.

“The adaptive display concept can be adjusted from a standard Android phone experience in a flat position to being wrapped for a wrist-worn experience or positioned in several stand modes. When laid flat, the 6.9″ display runs a full Android experience, just like any smartphone. In the upright position, the device can be adjusted into a self standing position, running a more compact form of full Android on a 4.6″ display. Users can also wrap the device around their wrist for a similar experience to the external display on motorola razr+ to stay connected while on the go,” it added.

There is of course the question of how durable the display is over time, especially as it would fold and bend far more than current foldables do. As such it remains to be seen whether the current crease problem on foldables would be present on this concept too.

That said, the chances of Lenovo bringing this specific concept to market is slim, but the company is at least showing the willingness to experiment with foldable technology. Perhaps this then, is the latest iteration in a product that will one day hit the market?

For now though, it remains a concept, so it will be interesting to see if other phone makers are willing to experiment too.
