Here’s what Takealot has planned for Black Friday 2023

  • Takealot has detailed its plans for Black Friday 2023 on which it will offer a bevvy of products at up to 50 percent off.
  • It will essentially have Black Friday deals from 19th November up to 28th November, with the 24th earmarked for the major “Blue Dot Sale” event.
  • Last year 3 million South Africans purchased something on Takealot during Black Friday.

South Africa’s resident ecommerce juggernaut, Takealot, has announced what all shoppers need to know about its upcoming Black Friday sale.

Called the Takealot “Blue Dot Sale,” held since 2012, the retailer will be holding this year’s online shopping rush on 24th November 2023, but it will see products being sold with discounts, deals and special offers from 19th November thanks to an Early Access phase which will run until the 23rd.

Early Access sales can be seen on the Takealot app from the 19th, so if you are interested in seeing what specials their will be earlier than others, you will need to download the Takealot app. The retailer promises up to 50 percent off on TVs, appliances, notebooks, beauty products, toys and more.

Following the Blue Dot Sale on the 24th, Takealot will continue the retail craze with Cyber Monday and Takealot Tuesday sales held on the 27th and 28th of November 2023, respectively.

“It has become a hallmark Black Friday event for South Africans, offering real value for pressed consumers. As cost of living continues to mount financial pressure on South Africans, takealot.com’s Blue Dot Sale will offer consumers an opportunity to shop for what they need, at a more accessible cost,” shared the retailer in a press release sent to Hypertext.

The company says that three million customers took advantage of Black Friday deals last year, with one user placing 58 orders in a 24 hour period.

According to a set of data published last year, the top items sold by units were bottles of Ballantine’s Finest Scotch Whiskey.

Meanwhile, the top item sold by sheer profit for the retailer was the Hisense 58″ Smart TV, and the single most expensive item sold was the Samsung 75″ Smart TV which retailed for R109 999.

Coincidentally, Samsung is already offering discounted prices on its largest Smart TVs for Black Friday 2023.

Research from the Bureau of Market Research published at the beginning of November showed that, in total, South Africa could generate R26.6 billion this year during the Black Friday period.

This represents a R7.6 billion increase over the sales made during Black Friday 2022.
