Requiem for a Dream director helming Musk biopic

  • Tech billionaire Elon Musk is getting a film biography made chronicling his life in the tech industry to date.
  • A24 is set to produce the biography, with Darren Aronofsky tipped to direct the film.
  • The film will use Walter Isaacson’s recently published book as its source material.

The recent Hollywood obsession with the technology industry and its eccentric founders is set to continue as an Elon Musk biopic has been green lit.

According to Variety, which originally covered the news at the weekend, A24 is set to produce the film biography of the SpaceX, Tesla, and now X (formerly Twitter) owner.

The film will use the recently published and authorised autobiography of Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson as its source material. The book has proved divisive, potentially painting Musk in a far more flattering light than many were expecting, especially as some of his actions involving Tesla stock, and more recently rebranded Twitter to X, have diminished his genius status in the tech industry.

While many of the finer details around this project are yet to be shared, such as who would play the lead in a Musk biopic, we do know that A24 is tapping up Darren Aronofsky to direct the film, with his past notable films being Requiem for a Dream, Mother!, Black Swan, and The Whale.

It’s also unclear what kind of direction the film will take, with Isaacson’s biography on Steve Jobs used for the 2015 Danny Boyle-directed film starring Michael Fassbender, and quite different from the Ashton Kutcher version that hit cinemas in 2013.

Either way, the lore of Musk is growing, as he is set to join the likes of Daniel Ek (Spotify), Travis Kalanick (Uber), and Adam Neumann (WeWork) as tech company founders who will have had movies or series made about their endeavours.

At the time of writing, there is no word on when this. Musk biopic would be released.
