  • The Game Awards 2023 will stream worldwide tomorrow at 02:30 CAT.
  • There are a host of viewing options available to anyone interested, as the event will stream for free.
  • Alan Wake 2, Baldur’s Gate 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are all nominated for the top prize of Game of the Year.

This week will include one of the most important events on the gaming calendar as the Game Awards 2023 is set to air worldwide on 7th December. The event will see arguably the best of the best of the videogame industry recognised for their achievements this year, with the top prize of the night the lauded Game of the Year award.

Six games are nominated for the award this year, including Alan Wake 2, Baldur’s Gate 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Last year FromSoftware’s instant classic Elden Ring won the award.

The event is also a turn for developers and publishers to target a vast videogaming audience with their upcoming products, and usually there are plenty of reveals and trailers expected at the Game Awards 2023. Armored Core VI, Hades 2 and Space Marine 2 were all revealed for the first time at last year’s event.

Unfortunately for South Africa’s relatively small but passionate community of gamers, local start times have not been indicated by the official Game Awards website. An issue African gamers are well experienced in, where seemingly the entire continent is forgotten about.

Geoff, it takes three seconds to Google a conversion to Central African Time (CAT), c’mon now.

How to watch the Game Awards 2023:

How to watch the show: the Game Awards 2023 will stream live and for free on Thursday, 7th December at 19:30 ET. If you’re in South Africa, you will be able to watch the show at 02:30 CAT. This is desperately early, but we’re sure there will be some out there who will tune into the show.

In terms of where exactly you need to be tuning into, the official website says that the event will stream on just about anywhere where gaming is streamed. Below are a set of links to each site where the event can be streamed for free come 02:30.

You will also be able to watch the event through co-streamers. These are streamers that have the rights to stream the event and comment on it while it is playing out live.

The Game Awards 2023 will also include live music from the likes of Poets of the Fall who will be performing a song from Alan Wake 2, and other musical acts that will pay homage to the games. The live orchestra portion is usually a highlight of the event.

Voting for which nominees you think deserve to take each award is still open, so head to the official Game Awards website to make sure your voice is heard. Otherwise, this year is shaping up to be the biggest show in the event’s history. The Game Awards has consistently been among the most-watched award shows in the world, and has recently been dwarfing Hollywood award shows in terms of the sheer number of eyes that tune in.

Showrunner Geoff Keighley’s leveraging of every online platform he can, allowing for co-streaming and offering the show for free has proved a winning formula. In 2021 the show garnered 85 million viewers. That year the Oscars managed 16.1 million.

103 million people tuned into the show last year to watch Elden Ring win Game of the Year, and to see Hidetaka Miyazaki interrupted by some random guy who snuck on stage. Keighley has said that this year will be different as the show has beefed up security considerably.
