Mid-range OPPO A58 lands in SA before festive season

  • OPPO has announced the local availability of a new mid-range 4G smartphone – the A58.
  • Recommended pricing for the phone starts at R5 499, depending on the retailer.
  • The device features a large 6.72″ HD+ display and even larger 5 000mAh battery.

For many South Africans the festive period officially kicks off tomorrow when the country celebrates the Springboks back-to-back World Cup wins thanks a public holiday. It comes as no surprise then that the handset partner of the Boks, OPPO, is launching a new device in the country – the OPPO A58.

This mid-range 4G device is the latest in affordably priced but well specced options from the Chinese phone maker, with it sporting a large display and even larger battery to offer good value for money to local Android phone fans.

Looking a bit closer at the components on offer, the OPPO A58 features a 6.72″ FullHD+ display up front 2400×1080). Up front is a punch hole for the 8MP selfie camera, and flipping things over a 50MP primary lens and 2MP monochromatic offering are present.

“Users can capture crystal-clear, high-resolution images with a 50 MP AI Camera. The pixel binning support allows four pixels to combine into one larger pixel, resulting in enhanced details, particularly in low-light conditions. The 50 MP AI Camera works in conjunction with the 2 MP Portrait Camera to create impressive background blur, highlighting the subject in Portrait Mode,” adds OPPO of the camera performance in a press release shared with Hypertext.

The device is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G85 processor, has 6GB RAM, touts 128GB of internal storage, and supports dual SIM configuration.

The other notable element onboard the OPPO A58 is the battery, which is a massive 5 000mAh unit. Like many of the more recent offerings from the company, the A58 also supports OPPO’s 33W SUPERVOOC fast charging charging. This delivers 100 percent battery capacity from 75 minutes of charging, with five minutes yielding up to 3.39 hours of calling capability.

“To further enhance the user experience, the OPPO A58 includes All-day AI Power Saving features for those moments when users forget to charge their phones. With just 5% battery, the smartphone still supports 91 minutes of phone calls, maximising the last drops of battery power for emergency needs,” adds OPPO.

As for local pricing, contracts start at R269 per month, with the A58 coming in two colour options – Dazzling Green and Glowing Black. We have also spotted the device on prepaid from R5 499.
