• MTN Group has announced two new appointments to its executive committee and markets leadership.
• These appointments include Selorm Adadevoh as Group Chief Commerical Officer and Stephen Blewet as MTN Ghana chief executive officer.
• Adadevoh will replace Jens Schulte-Bockum when his fixed-term contract concludes in March 2024

As we start to wrap up business for this year in anticipation of the December break, MTN has announced multiple changes to its Group Executive Committee (Exco) and leadership in some of the markets it operates in.

There are a lot of changes to run through so strap in.

First up, MTN Group Chief Operating Officer Jens Schulte-Bockum will step down from the role effective 31st March 2024. According to a SENS announcement, this date marks the end of Schulte-Bockum’s fixed-term contract.

During his seven years at MTN, Schulte-Bockum has helped scale MTN’s core connectivity business including its home, fibre, enterprise and network as a service products. More recently, Schulte-Bockum has helped accelerate MTN’s Ayoba super-app and its API marketplace, Chenosis.

While his fixed term contract is over, Schulte-Bockum will continue to serve as a non-executive director on the board of MTN South Africa, MTN Nigeria and Bayobab.

“I would like to thank Jens for his valuable contribution over the years. We look forward to his continued input on the boards of MTN SA, MTN Nigeria and Bayobab. As Jens concludes his fixed-term contract as GCOO, we are pleased to be able to make strong internal appointments within the Group to fill key roles. This is testament to our robust succession planning,” Ralph Mupita, MTN Group president, said in a statement.

With the departure of Schulte-Bockum, MTN has announced that Selorm Adadevoh will become Group Chief Commerical Officer effective 1st April 2024.

“Selorm joined MTN in 2018 as CEO of key subsidiary MTN Ghana and brings extensive experience to his new role. Prior to assuming the role of CEO of MTN Ghana, Selorm held key positions within the Digicel Group, including CEO, COO and Global Director for Mobile Financial Services (MFS). Before that, he held various senior positions at Millicom/Tigo in Ghana including roles as CCO, Head of MFS as well as Head of Product Innovation,” MTN Group said in a SENS announcement.

Speaking of MTN Ghana, the entity will see Stephen Blewet sitting in the CEO chair from 1st April 2023.

This comes after Blewett rejoined MTN Ghana earlier this year after a brief stint at Digicel. Since rejoining, Blewet has served as the Operations Executive for Markets where he was responsible for the West and Central Africa market as well as providing operations support to the senior vice president for MTN Group in the region.
