DualSense V2 controller with 12 hour battery may be on the way

  • A listing for a new iteration of DualSense controller has been spotted online.
  • Tentatively named the DualSense V2, the updated controller promises better battery life compared to the original.
  • The reported 12 hours battery life more than doubles what the current model serves up.

Sony could be updating one of its PlayStation 5 peripherals as a listing for a new version of DualSense controller was spotted online this week. The listing was seen by GameRant on the Canadian Best Buy online store, with a few crucial details of the device also coming to the fore.

It should be noted that at the time of writing, Sony is yet to confirm that a new controller is on the way, but should some of the specifications of the DualSense V2 as it has been dubbed be true, it could prove a worthwhile update.

To that end, the listing says the DualSense V2 has received a sizeable increase in battery life, with up to 12 hours on offer. This more than doubles what the current PS5 base controller serves up (five hours).

As for other features, that’s pretty much it as far as improvements compared to the predecessor are concerned.

Here the same 3.5mm headset jack, built-in microphone, and trigger and bumper layout are present. We would have liked to see a couple of elements from the more expensive DualSense Edge controller find its way onto V2, but if the listing is anything to go by, the pricing for the extra battery life is favourable.

On this front it is listed at CAD 90, although is not available to purchase just yet, which translates to ~R1 252 with the current exchange rate. The current iteration is listed at R1 499 locally, so hopefully V2 will be in line with that should it be made available to purchase in South Africa.

It’s unclear if or indeed when it will land locally, but PlayStation SA may be waiting for stock of the slimmer PS5 consoles to reach our shores too.
