Samsung debuts Galaxy S24 series imbued with Galaxy AI

  • Samsung has officially unveiled its new Galaxy S24 series, which includes three models of smartphone all supporting Galaxy AI.
  • Galaxy AI is billed as a wholly immersive mobile experience, with circle to search, generative AI image editing, and live translate added to the mix.
  • The Galaxy S24 series is expected in South Africa in early February.

This evening, at an event held in San Jose, California, Samsung unveiled its latest lineup of flagship phones to the world in the form of the Galaxy S24 series.

As has been the case in previous years, the series comprises of three new models – the base Galaxy S24, larger S24+, and specced out S24 Ultra.

Interestingly, the South Korean phone maker debuted the new devices earlier than it has done in recent years, and although it did not disclose why such a choice was taken, we’re of the opinion that much of it has to do with Galaxy AI, which as the name suggests is a new suite of features powered by AI technology across the range.

Among the features is a new circle to search functionality that allows users to highlight objects on images, within the UI of selected apps, or in their camera roll and bring up Google-powered search results. It therefore proves a very helpful search tool when text-based descriptions are not yielding the desired result.

Other interesting features as part of Galaxy AI include a live translation function, which supports 13 languages as part of a pack that users must download in order to operate on the S24 series. This live translation extends to voice and video calls, with it also facilitating transcriptions that are stored on-device for use at a later stage if needed.

Lastly worth mentioning on the Galaxy AI front are the photo and video tools that have been added to mix.

Here the S24 series will offer suggestions for edits on images, as well as generative AI-based changes given by specific prompts, such as removing shadows, adding/cropping out content from the background and foreground. As for video, a new slow-mo function allows for simple editing of video to the desired frames per second, and can be used on any video source compatible with a Samsung phone, so you don’t have to exclusively
