- Canon has announced the impending opening of applications for its 2024 Student Development Programme.
- Photojournalism students, or those interested in the profession, have between 12th February and 7th March to apply.

Canon Europe has announced a call for entries to the 2024 edition of its annual Student Development Programme (CSDP). If you live outside the EU, do not be disheartened as entries from applicants are being accepted from countries across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
For those unfamiliar with CSDP, it is designed to offer students in photojournalism or those with a keen interest in the profession with access and exposure to experienced professionals from the photographic community and the opportunity to attend key industry events.
“Former alumni have gone on to work for reputable news agencies and internationally renowned publications and continued to build successful careers,” Canon noted in a release shared with Hypertext.
As mentioned, for the 2024 edition of the Student Development Programme, applications are open to any students or interns residing or studying in EMEA, with applications opening up on 12th February and running until 7th March.
A limited number of spaces will also be available to talent endorsed by industry professionals, Canon confirmed, with submissions being judged by a panel of editors from Getty Images, Reuters Pictures, AFP, and EPA.
The company said that up to 100 students will receive mentorship from industry experts who represent established news agencies and news publications across the EMEA, as well as Canon brand ambassadors.
On top of this, a shortlist of 25 students will attend a four-day Canon workshop in a grand Catalan farmhouse in Girona, Spain. This workshop will conclude with a final night’s stay at the Visa pour l’Image International Photojournalism Festival in Perpignan, France.
As for what past students who took part in the CSDP have gone on to achieve, the company rattled off a few recent attendees and their accolades.
“2022 alumni Mohamed Mahdy (b. 1996), whose work focusses on the hidden and often unseen communities in Egypt, has won a main prize at the 2023 World Press Photo awards in the Open Format category. Fellow alumni Alexandra Corcode (b. 2000) has been selected for the 2023 Tom Stoddard Award for Excellence with her intimate portrayal of loneliness and abandonment amongst the elderly generation in her home country of Romania,” the photography specialists highlighted.
