Honor reveals AI-powered MagicBook Pro 16 laptop

  • Honor debuted a new laptop alongside its latest foldable and flagship phone for Day Zero of MWC 24.
  • The MagicBook Pro 16 laptop is said to be AI-powered, which is the new trend within this product category.
  • The new device will initially be launched in China before releasing in other parts of the globe in Q2 this year.

In the lead up to its Day Zero press conference for MWC this year, Honor made it well known that its latest foldable device and flagship phone would be showcased at the event. True to its word, the Magic V2 RSR and Magic6 series saw the light of day for markets outside of China, but Honor also had a new offering in the form of the MagicBook Pro 16 laptop.

As is the case with many new laptops being launched at the moment, Honor is highlighting the AI-powered features that the MagicBook Pro 16 touts.

“In collaboration with Microsoft, the HONOR MagicBook Pro 16 features real-time resources optimization, multi-device connectivity and a range of AI features,” the company noted in a press release

“With the launch of HONOR’s MagicBook Pro 16, we are bringing the power of Windows and Azure Speech Services to customers, showcasing the potential of on-device AI and cloud-based AI working together to enable individuals and organizations to achieve more,” added Mark Linton, VP of Device Partner Sales at Microsoft.

One of the other key collaborators on this AI-powered laptop experience is Intel, with the company’s latest Core Ultra processors at the heart of this new device.

“With advanced performance and power efficiency, Intel Core Ultra processor is ushering in the era of the AI PC with 3 AI engines: the CPU, GPU, and the new NPU. Together with HONOR, we unlock an endless amount of AI experiences from productivity, content creation, to gaming and beyond, while continuing to raise the bar on system design,” highlighted Intel’s David Feng.

As for the AI features onboard, the range on offer here are quite similar to what we’ve Samsung roll out for the S24 series as part of Galaxy AI. To that end, Smart Picture Search, Smart Document Summary, Text Comprehension, AI Subtitle, and Magic Text are available on this latest laptop.

On the hardware side of things, powered the laptop is the aforementioned Intel Core Ultra 7 processor 155H, which features six performance cores, eight efficient cores, and two low-power efficient cores. This is paired with a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series Laptop GPU.

The screen is a 16″ FullView Display (3072×1920) that delivers 100 percent DCI-P3, 100 percent sRGB wide colour gamut support, and a refresh rate of up to 165Hz.

In terms of availability, the MagicBook Pro 16 will initially be launched in China, and then make its way to selected regions in Q2 of this year. Whether South Africa is one of them remains to be seen, as Honor is yet to make its mark on the laptop market locally as yet.
