  • Huawei has launched a new entry-level device in South Africa in the form of the Nova Y72.
  • The big focus of the device is its massive 6 000mAh battery, which yields to 31 hours of video playback or 80 hours of music playback from a single full charge.
  • The Nova Y72 also features 22.5W fast charging capabilities.

Huawei has a new entry-level smartphone joining its lineup locally, as the Nova Y72 launched in South Africa today.

The new device is already available to purchase in South Africa, and its focus is very much on battery performance.

To that end, the Nova Y72 has been fitted with a massive 6 000mAh battery, making it one of the larger options you can find within this price segment. Speaking of which, the Nova Y72 is recommended to retail for R4 999, and will be available on contract from local networks from R329 per month (24-month contract).

The Huawei Nova Y72 will be sold in either Green (above) or Black.

So what do you get for that price?

As mentioned a mammoth 6 000mAh battery is present here, with Huawei noting that it can go a full day and then some when it comes to digesting content on the phone. Here the phone maker advises that the Y72 can muster up to 31 hours of video playback, or 80 hours of music playback, or 30 hours of continuous calls, or 25 hours of web browsing.

As such, it should be able to handle most nine to five requirements from users.

Along with the massive battery, Huawei has imbued the Nova Y72 to support 22.5W fast charging, although it does not mention how long it takes to reach a full charge from 0 percent.

Other notable features include a large 6.75″ HD+ (1600×720) display, 8GB RAM, 128GB onboard storage, a sizeable 50MP primary lens on the rear and 8MP selfie camera up front.

Last worth mentioning is the X button, which features in the left side of the phone and can be used to launch a window with your most used apps can be access. There’s no indication of whether this button can be remapped to facilitate other functions, however.

With the Nova series still proving popular in South Africa, and one of the key product lineups within Huawei’s phone stable of late, the Nova Y72 is yet another affordably priced option for South African consumers to consider.
