HyperOS-touting Xiaomi 14 series showcased at MWC

  • The Xiaomi 14 series has been revealed, with two models on show – the standard 14 and 14 Ultra.
  • Both options feature Leica co-engineered camera arrays, but the Ultra boasts four 50MP lenses.
  • Recommended pricing for the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Ultra start at €999 and €1 499 respectively.

Like several other phone makers, Xiaomi made it well known what devices it would be revealing on Day Zero of MWC 24, with the 14 Ultra in particular being showcased in China a couple of days before the Barcelona-based event kicked off. Now the full Xiaomi 14 series has been revealed, as the company readies its latest flagship phones to go up against the Samsung S24 series and Conor’s Magic6 lineup.

Starting with the Ultra model, much of the focus is on the photography and videography capabilities on offer here, with Xiaomi once again leaning on Leica to assist with its expertise.

“Xiaomi 14 Ultra is equipped with a professional quad-camera configuration with a remarkable range of focal lengths, spanning from 12mm to 120mm. Its main camera, equipped with a ƒ/1.63-ƒ/4.0 stepless variable aperture, offers seamless exposure adjustments in diverse scenarios. Integrating an ultra-large 1-inch LYT-900 image sensor with a dynamic range of up to 14EV guarantees outstanding image quality even in challenging environments,” Xiaomi pointed out in its press release.

“Completing the quad-camera setup are the Leica 75mm floating telephoto camera, the Leica 120mm periscope camera, and the Leica 12mm ultra-wide camera,” it added.

The standard 14 is no slouch either, missing only the 50MP periscope lens in its array, but boasting the same 32MP option up front as the Ultra for its selfie camera.

In fact, much of the hardware is the same across both models, with the same processor, RAM, and storage options present. The differences come in the size of the display, battery, and price, with the Ultra winning in all three.

“Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra are both powered by the leading Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, boasting an impressive 32% CPU performance boost and 34% power consumption decrease, along with a remarkable 34% GPU performance boost and 38% power consumption decrease, compared to the previous generation,” the company noted.

One area that the standard 14 pips the Ultra is in colour options, with it coming in either Black, White, or Jade Green. The latter is particularly striking.
