Shoprite Group opens bursary applications for 2024 and 2025

  • The Shoprite Group Bursary programme is currently fielding applications for the 2024 and 2025 academic years.
  • There are a range of bursaries available in fields including accounts, criminology and even food science.
  • In 2023 Shoprite Group provided bursaries to 200 students covering their tuition and accommodation among other necessities.

With Matric results released, graduates are now eyeing their prospects for tertiary education and for those who need financial assistance, there is some good news.

Shoprite Group has announced that applications for its bursary programme are open and will until 30th April. Students looking to study in the fields of Accounting, Biological Sciences, Criminology, Information Technology, Logistics and Supply Chain, Retail Business Management, Food Sciences as well as Agricultural Sciences are invited to apply for a spot in the programme.

“As a leader in retail innovation, the company provides fertile ground for young talent to grow and thrive. Our bursaries are aligned to critical skills in the business and our commitment to uplifting the lives of young people by providing them an entryway into highly skilled roles,” head of talent and learning solutions at Shoprite Group, Leigh Adams, said in a statement.

The bursary programme covers tuition and accommodation but the real perk here is the promise of employment after graduating. Other perks offered through these bursaries include a monthly grocery allowance and access to the Shoprite Employee Wellness programme.

We should note that space in this programme is limited but, in 2023, as many as 200 students were funded by the retail group.

“This is a full circle moment for me because I started working as a merchandiser in retail when I was 15 years old during the school holidays. The best thing about the bursary is that you are guaranteed a job, and the graduate programme ensures you have the skill and the confidence to make an impactful contribution in your field,” says Harry Makobe (pictured in the header), a 23-year-old Centurion resident who is completing a B-Com Supply Chain Management degree thanks to the Shoprite Bursary programme.

We highly recommend students, both prospective and presently studying check the Shoprite Group’s bursary page for opportunities. Not only is having the cost of your studies, accommodation and food covered a massive stress reliever, the fact that graduates will have a job at Shoprite Group is tantalising.
