  • Honor has launched two new mid-range for local consumers – X9b 5G and X7b.
  • The X9b boasts up to three days of battery life, 5G connectivity, and features an “Ultra-Bounce Anti-Drop” display.
  • The X7b features the same rear camera array, larger battery, and same RAM and storage and its more expensive brethren.

It is turning into a banner week for new smartphone launches in South Africa, with the latest being the Honor X9b 5G and X7b.

The pair of devices of are the latest addition to the Chinese phone maker‘s X series of mid-range smartphones, sitting on the more premium and more affordable ends of the spectrum respectively.

The X9b 5G is the headline grabber here, boasting many specifications and features that consumers would be able to find in a flagship phone, but for considerably less money. To that end it has a 6.78″ AMOLED screen up front, which is said to be more durable than most on the market these days.

“HONOR’s Ultra-Bounce Anti-Drop Display combines innovative special materials used in the manufacturing of the display, along with – for the first time – three layers of protection around the screen, frame and internal compartments, helping to absorb impact if the phone is dropped from up to 1.5m, and ensuring resilience and strength,” the company highlighted in a release shared with Hypertext

“The three-layer protective structure also makes the HONOR X9b 5G splash-resistant and capable of working even after being submerged in water for 15 seconds,” it added.

Honor is also pointing out the class-leading battery life on offer from the X9b, with the 5 800mAh cell onboard delivering up to three days of use from a full charge. Furthermore, the company said the battery retains a 80 percent of its capacity, even after 1 000 charge cycles.

As for the less expensive X7b, it sports the same trio of lenses that its more expensive brethren does, along with an even bigger 6 000mAh battery, and similar RAM and storage setups.

The key difference is in the size and quality of the display, along with only going up to 4G in terms of broadband connectivity, but given it is half the price of the X9b, it may prove a savvy choice for local consumers cognisant of pricing.
