The 96th annual Academy Awards took place last night, but many people may not have known that as their social media feeds featured no videos of one grown man slapping another grown man.
Regardless, the 2024 Oscars were held with very little incident, and no real shocks or surprises in terms of winners of the night, as the films, actors, and actresses that having been nabbing prizes all throughout this awards season did so last night too.
To that end, as has been the case for the past couple of months, Oppenheimer was the big winner on the night with seven awards, including Best Picture.
Added to this was Best Director for Christopher Nolan, which is his first win in the category, as well as first wins for Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. for Lead and Supporting Actor respectively.
Some of the other highlights on the night of the 2024 Oscars included a musical performance by Ryan Gosling, doing I’m Just Ken from the Barbie film that was inspired by Madonna’s Material Girl music video, along with Hayao Miyazaki winning Best Animated Feature Film for The Boy and The Heron, which would be a fitting end to his career as it is rumoured to be his final film.
