• WhatsApp is adding to a feature it rolled out in December of last year.
• Where users could previously pin one message to the top of a chat, they can now pin up to three messages.
• You’ll be able to pin images and polls too.

In December of last year, WhatsApp introduced a new pinning feature to its messaging platform that allowed users to pin one message to the top of a chat. It has proved so useful that the Meta-owned application is now allowing users to pin up to three messages in a chat.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp head Will Cathcart confirmed the additions to the feature in their respective WhatsApp Channels (we’re not a part).

“You can pin up to three messages to the top of a chat. Once pinned, the message stays at the top of the chat as a banner for 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. Tap on the pinned message banner to navigate to the message in the chat,” the platform explained in an updated Help Center post.

“If more than one message is pinned, the banner shows how many messages are pinned. The most recent pinned message appears first in the banner. Tap the banner to see the next pinned message,” it added.

It is also worth pointing that it is not only text messages that can be pinned, with images and polls also capable of being pinned to the top of a DM or group chat.

The new pinning feature is available across the different iterations of WhatsApp, with the steps to do as follows:

• Android – Tap and hold the message. Tap Pin, then select the pin duration (24 hours, seven days, or 30 days), and hit Pin.
• iOS – Tap and hold the message. Tap More options, then select Pin and select the pin duration (24 hours, seven days, or 30 days).
• Web and Desktop – Go to the message you want to pin and click Pin message, then select the pin duration (24 hours, seven days, or 30 days), and hit Pin.

At the time of writing there is no method to pin a message for longer, a different period of time, or permanently, outside of the options listed above, but hopefully that is something that it addressed in an update should enough users request it.

The new pinning feature should be rolling out to users across all platforms in the coming days and weeks, if it’s not available there already.
