See what South African LEGO builders made for a recent show

Those who follow us on Facebook or Twitter would have seen our post from this past weekend encouraging folks to go to the Sandton City shopping centre to see an amazing LEGO exhibit.

For those who couldn’t make it we have you covered as we were at the event to snap some pictures of the amazing displays and also catch some videos of the LEGO builds that had some movement to them.

Before we get to those images and videos, we have to give some background for the event. This was an exhibition by the zaLUG which is a collection of like-minded LEGO creators. The zaLUG is a Recognised LEGO User Group which is part of LEGO’s Ambassador Network. These types of groups exist all over the world and their hard work putting on shows, helping with good causes and creating works of art with the humble brick is recognised by LEGO itself.

zaLUG has put on many of these exhibits in the past and will continue to do so in the future, so if you missed this one be sure to follow the group, also on Facebook or Twitter.

You can also follow Great Yellow Brick, which operates the official LEGO stores in South Africa. For this past weekend’s exhibition, the Sandton LEGO Store was offering customers double loyalty points on all purchases.

One final word before we get into the media is the giant mosaic of a lion that greeted everyone who came to view the show. The impressive feat, we are told, used around 50 000 pieces but only four colours. Most of the build is black and white but the also use a few shades of brown.
