SPEEDRUN – eTolls no more

A bane for many Gauteng motorists for more than a decade, this evening eTolls will officially be shut down. The experiment that no one really wanted is set to come to an end, but not before the South African National Road Agency (SANRAL) tries to bill motorists one last time.

It remains to be seen how the Agency will try to recoup its monies from motorists who were never keen on paying in the first place, or indeed what will happen to the gantries erected above some of the major roads in the province, many of which are littered with cutting edge technology that will seemingly go unused now.

Either way it is now a monument to a failed and very expensive government project.

Also featured in this morning’s SPEEDRUN roundup are a review of what will likely become the internet’s favourite camera, an exciting look at the last expansion of Destiny 2, the immune t return of loadshedding as the temperature keeps dipping, and a contraceptive vending machine from the Department of Health.
