Start saving for LEGO’s May releases in South Africa

  • Pricing for the May releases of many LEGO sets has been revealed.
  • Star Wars and Despicable Me have the most sets.
  • The much-anticipated LEGO Space minifigures are here.

May is around the corner and LEGO fans do not have the most time to save up for the new wave of sets that will launch this coming month.

Great Yellow Brick, the online store for the physical LEGO branded stores in South Africa, has recently updated its new section to include the May releases. While other stores have already listed some May sets – and even opened up pre-orders – it is notable here as Great Yellow Brick only sells their sets at the local RRP (outside of specific sales). It’s always best to wait for listings from this store, then, to see exactly what the South African pricing will be.

As May is also the home of Star Wars Day / May the Fourth, there are quite a few Star Wars sets releasing here. We already covered the biggest set separately in the form of the UCS TIE Interceptor, so click here for more on that.

Aside from the TIE, we’re most excited for the large, buildable Droideka pictured above. Its 583 pieces make not one but two Droidekas (is that the right plural?). One is in scale with LEGO’s minifigures and the other is the main build of the set, recreating the droid on a larger scale. You also get a display plaque with some in-universe information.

There are also a couple of key chains and BrickHeadz (LEGO’s attempt at Funko Pops) launching too. The Phantom Menace gets some love here as 2024 is the 25 anniversary of the movie. Not only is there a five pack of Brickheadz featuring several key characters (Darth Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn, Captain Panaka, Quen Amidala, young Anakin Skywalker and Jar Jar Binks) but two other sets are also based on this movie (75383: Darth Maul’s Sith Infiltrator and 75380: Mos Espa Podrace Diorama).

Outside of Star Wars Despicable Me gets the most amount of new sets though we can’t say any of them are exciting to our eyes. What is more exciting are the two Icons sets which continue the crossover sets LEGO started in January and the new Collectible Minifigures which bring back a lot of LEGO’s Classic Space themes.

Below you can check out the list of May releases from Great Yellow Brick but don’t forget to shop around using our guide to buying LEGO in South Africa.
