35 Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE’s scooped up fast in SA

  • The limited edition Range Rover Sport SV Edition One is coming to South Africa, but only 35 will make their way along local highways and by-ways.
  • As many as 200 South Africans expressed interest in the vehicle.
  • The Range Rover Sport SV houses a new 467kW, 750Nm, 4.4-litre Twin-Turbo MHEV V8 petrol engine and has a top speed of 290km/h.

Range Rover’s forthcoming Sport SV has South Africans reaching for their wallets if reservations for the limited edition Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE are anything to go buy.

According to a press release, 35 Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE’s were earmarked for South Africa and all 35 have been reserved by locals.

“Close to 200 clients expressed interest in the limited-edition new Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE. Thirty-five now have the special privilege of staking a claim to one. They’ll be among the first in South Africa to experience an impressive number of segment and brand firsts that make this model the benchmark for ultimate modern luxury performance SUVs,” Janico Dannhauser, product and pricing manager at Jaguar Land Rover said in a press release.

The Range Rover Sport SV houses a new 467kW, 750Nm 4.4-litre Twin-Turbo MHEV V8 petrol engine – 44kW and 50Nm more than the previous generation Range Rover Sport SVR – the new Range Rover Sport SV can accelerate from 0-100km/h in as little as 3.7 seconds and boasts a top speed of 290km/h.

This will also be the first Range Rover to feature a 23 inch carbon fibre wheel option and Carbon Ceramic brakes. A 6D Dynamics suspension system is said to keep drivers comfortable and includes a combination of hydraulic interlinked dampers, height-adjustable air springs and pitch control. The manufacturer notes that this system removes the need for anti-roll bars and maintains a “near-level” body stance even during extreme cornering, heavy acceleration and hard braking.

This vehicle, much like the rest of the world, has also had artificial intelligence crammed into it. SUBPAC AI pairs with transducers that are aligned with the backs of occupants and generate vibrations based on the media being played to offer an “engaging and immersive” in-car audio experience. Owners will find a 29 speaker 1430W Meridian Signature Sound System inside as well.

“The SV EDITION ONE specification represents a curation of the best feature combinations, colours and finishes. Each Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE is enhanced with exclusive branding on the front splitter, centre console, treadplates and puddle lamps,” says Dannhauser.

It’s not clear how much locals are spending on the Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE, but in the US prices start at around R3 million.

Despite that price tag, this limited edition vehicle is selling like hotcakes. In the US, 600 units were earmarked for sale and all of them were sold out.

It’s interesting to see this popularity as it signals to us that ultra luxury cars may not be as desirable as they once were. Adrian Hallmark, chief executive at Bentley said earlier this year that sales of its luxury cars and SUVs were down 11 percent in 2023. The cause of this decline was chalked up to the ultra rich not wanting to look so ultra rich amongst us normies who drive regular cars among other reasons.

Indeed, Range Rovers have become quite iconic given the luxury they offer to passengers for a fee comparably lower than manufacturers such as Bentley.

Jaguar Land Rover South Africa says it will announce further details about the wider Range Rover Sport SV in due course.
