Applications open for UCT Online High School’s Learning Liberated Scholarship and Bursary Programme

  • Applications are now open for the Learning Liberated Scholarship and Bursary Programme (LLSB) from UCT Online High School.
  • The digital learning institution wants to  locate and sign-up up to 1 000 high school learners across the country for the January 2025 intake period.
  • Applications for the LLSBP close on 31st August 2024.

UCT Online High School is on a drive to locate and sign-up up to 1 000 high school learners across the country that require financial assistance for secondary education for the January 2025 academic year intake. The digital learning institution is doing this via its Learning Liberated Scholarship and Bursary Programme (LLSB).

Applications for the Learning Liberated Scholarship and Bursary Programme are now open, and UCT Online High School is urging parents/guardians to apply before the closing date of 31st August 2024.

This initiative is a couple of years old now, having been started in 2022 thanks to a partnership with Sanlam, and specifically looking for learners in need of bursaries for Grades 8 to 11.

“The Sanlam UCT Online High School Scholarship was designed to equip South Africa with essential skills for the fourth industrial revolution. It aligns with Sanlam’s mission to empower generations of Africans with financial confidence, security, and prosperity. The scholarship is also part of a broader strategy to foster diverse talent pipelines to support South Africa’s financial services sector and other vital industries,” the institution explains in a press release sent to Hypertext.

Unpacking the application and selection process, UCT Online High Schools says applications close at midnight on 31st August, and that all applications will be reviewed for shortlisting by the end of September 2024. Successful recipients notified in early October 2024, and these successful recipients will begin their schooling in January 2025 at UCT Online High School. 

In order to be eligible to apply for the Learning Liberated Scholarship and Bursary Programme, learners must meet the following requirements:

  • “Applicant must be a South African citizen
  • Applicant must reside in South Africa
  • At least one of the applicant’s parents must be a South African citizen
  • Applicant must be age appropriate for the grades to which they are applying (grades 8-11)
  • Applicant must want to complete the CAPS curriculum resulting in the National Senior Certificate (NSC)
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need (the family household income may not exceed R350,000 per annum or R29,000 per month)
  • Applicants applying for entry into:
    1. Grades 8-10 must obtain a minimum 50% average in both English (Home Language) and Mathematics
    2. Grade 11 must obtain a minimum 50% average in English (Home Language) and 40% average in either Mathematics or Maths Literacy
  • Applicant must have aspirations to pursue a tertiary education and career after school
  • Applicant must have access to stable internet, a laptop or desktop, and a printer
  • Applicant must have a safe learning environment with necessary support from at least 1 adult champion/supervisor.”
