Finally, God of War Ragnarök arrives on PC in a few months

  • At the State of Play event this week Sony announced that PC gamers would be able to experience God of War Ragnarök on 19th September.
  • PC gamers can enjoy true 4K visuals, unlocked framerates and NVIDIA RTX Deep Learning Super Sampling, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, and Intel XeSS support.
  • God of War Ragnarök will cost R1 149 on both the Steam and Epic Games Store.

Less than two years after release on PlayStation 4 and 5, the God of War sequel God of War Ragnarök is coming to PC on 19th September.

The critically acclaimed follow up to the rebooted story of Kratos in the North is coming to PC thanks to Santa Monica Studio and Jetpack Interactive. Ragnarök picks up after Kratos and Atreus trigger the start of the end of the world and the Norse pantheon is none-to-pleased with the outsider’s interference.

The sequel to God of War (2018) follows Atreus more closely and players will get a closer look at the iconic boy.

As for technical features, God of War Ragnarök will have an unlocked framerate and the option of true 4K resolution. PC gamers can also take advantage of upscaling technology including NVIDIA RTX Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), and Intel XeSS (Xe Super Sampling). There is also support for 21:9 and 32:9 ultra-widescreen displays.

Unfortunately, this release will require players have a PlayStation Network account. This requirement caused a stir within Helldivers 2 recently so it will be interesting to see how players react to the requirement in one of, if not the most anticipated PlayStation release for PC.

System requirements are yet to be announced but we do have pricing.

Over on Steam and the Epic Games Store the base God of War Ragnarök package will cost a staggering R1 149 while the Digital Deluxe Edition which includes some cosmetic items and a digital artbook will cost you R1 299.

Sony has also said that PC players will receive the free DLC, Valhalla. This DLC not only introduces a new mode for players to grind through but also expands on the story of Kratos. When it was released last year it was a massive surprise and it was incredibly well received.

It’s quite shocking to see the release happening so soon. Here at the Hypertext office we’d assumed that we’d only see Ragnarök closer to the end of the year, potentially with a 2025 release date. That having been said, we aren’t going to complain about this announcement.
