SPEEDRUN – Microsoft Copilot+ is here

Microsoft held a Surface event this week where the focus was very much artificial intelligence, and in particular a new standard for AI-capable hardware called Copilot+.

The company explained that, ““Copilot+ PCs have the most powerful Neural Processing Units (NPUs) in the PC category today. With over 45 trillion of operations per second (TOPS), these NPUs power new AI experiences.”

Much of this power looks to be coming from Qualcomm silicon, with Microsoft and ASUS both debuting devices sporting the latest Snapdragon X Elite and Plus processors, leaving Intel a little in the lurch as Windows 11 products enter a new phase.

We’re sure more devices will be unveiled to meet this standard when Computex 2024 takes place early next month, but for now only a handful of options have been unveiled for now.

Along with a new phase of on-device generative AI from Microsoft, the other news curated in this morning’s SPEEDRUN roundup includes the creation of the largest cash withdrawal network in SA, a report on how streaming platforms trick you into staying subscribed, and a LEGO-made ode to an iconic scene for the first Spider-Man movie.
