The cheapest way to play Assassin’s Creed Shadows early

  • Ubisoft’s latest Assassin’s Creed title starts at R1 249 locally but there is a cheaper way to play the game, especially if you want to play early.
  • Ubisoft+ Premium is available for both PC and Xbox platforms and costs just €17.99 (~R356.41) per month.
  • The subscription gives you access to hundreds of Ubisoft titles and importantly, can be cancelled at any time.

Not only is the first trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows jaw-dropping, the local pricing for the game is as well.

With the Ultimate edition of the game costing as much as R2 329 on PC via the Epic Games Store, fans of the series are going to have to save up if they want to experience the intertwined stories of Yasuke and Naoe, the main protagonists.

Fortunately, there is a much more affordable option for gamers on PC and Xbox (both Series S|X and the Xbox One) in the form of Ubisoft+ Premium.

This subscription is even touted by Ubisoft on the Assassin’s Creed Shadows pre-order page. Ubisoft+ Premium gives to access to over 100 games and, perhaps most importantly, access to expansions, season passes and other premium content.

This means that if you subscribe to Ubisoft+ Premium you can not only play Assassin’s Creed when it launches on 15th November, you can also play it three days early.

The best part is that Ubisoft+ Premium costs just €17.99 (~R356.41) and you can cancel at any time. Frankly it’s an obvious choice for Xbox and PC gamers especially with that Ubisoft is charging for the latest installment of Assassin’s Creed.

Xbox Series X|SR1 429R1 949R2 299

Unfortunately for PlayStation players Ubisoft+ Premium isn’t currently available. The lower tiered, Ubisoft+ Classics can be accessed for R99 but this doesn’t give you access to the latest games. Perhaps Ubisoft expands its subscription to include PlayStation, it does have until November to do that so it’s worth checking that link closer to release.

Our one complaint about Ubisoft+ is that the selection isn’t as broad as Game Pass for obvious reasons. That coupled with the higher price means it’s not something we really recommend. However, when it comes to playing new titles, we think more people can afford R400-odd than R1 249.

You can sign up for Ubisoft+ Premium here.
