Apple ID is now Apple Account

  • Apple has decided to rebrand its sign-in process to Apple Account.
  • This new version is designed to create a consistent sign-in process across all devices.
  • The switch will roll out across all operating systems –  iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11.

WWDC 2024 is currently on the go and while much of the focus is on AI from the Cupertino-based company, it is also making some more subtle changes. To that end, its former sign-in system, Apple ID is being rebranded to Apple Account.

The company says the change is aimed at creating “a consistent sign-in experience across Apple services and devices, and relies on a user’s existing credentials.”

It added that Apple Account will be present on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11 moving forward.

As MacRumors points out, Apple Account is not present everywhere at this stage, with the current sign-in page still featuring the ID moniker. This will likely change by the time that iOS 18 and the other new iterations of operating system are ready to roll out in full to the public.

For now, they all remain in beta for developers to experience and tinker with. It may be a small change, but a significant one given how long Apple ID has been used by the company.

With Apple ID having been in use for two decades, it will soon be time to bid it adieu.
