• The Gautrain, in partnership with Varsity Vibe, is offering students a 25 percent discount on fares between two destinations of their choosing.
• Students must be under 25 years of age and be registered at an accredited institution.
• You must register with the Varsity Vibe app or website as well, and then you get to choose your own card design.

A promotion between Varsity Vibe and the Gautrain will see students save up to 25 percent on fares in the coming month between two destinations of their choosing. The special even applies during peak hours.

With the recent fare increases made by Gautrain earlier this month, these discounts will prove helpful to students on the go.

This means that if you stay in Midrand, and you study at an institution in Centurion, you can save 25 percent on fares between the two stations on any day of the week, no matter what time. The discount will apply to get you there and back, because it is for two destinations of choice.

The company however reminds students that these discounts are based on standard Gautrain peak orange fares.

How the Gautrain student discounts works

Students registered at accredited institutions of higher education in Gauteng, whether university of TVET, and under the age of 25 will be able to receive the promotion.

The Gautrain Student Promotion is only valid when purchasing the following products:

• Student 10 Trips: 10 train trips valid for a period of 20 days,
• or Student 44 Trips: 44 train trips valid for a period of 44 days.

With these trips, the promotion will apply between two chosen destinations, excluding OR Tambo airport. However, unfortunately, the discount does not apply to bus, parking or train trips to other destinations.

“Students are to ensure that there is adequate value on the card for these services by topping up the pay-as-you-go value on the card,” the Gautrain explains.

Before you can receive the promotion, students must register with Varsity Vibe, which is a mobile app that alerts you whenever a student discount becomes available, whether it be for transport, or for food, clothing and all in between.

To register:

• First register on the Gautrain student site,
• verify you are indeed a student at VarsityVibe.co.za,
• You will receive a notification that your registration is complete, and will be told to collect a Gautrain Students ard at the nearest Gautrain ticket station.

The new promotion also comes with new designs for the Gautrain Student card. You can choose whichever you want when you collect your card.
