HONOR is getting ready to launch a new mid-range device in South Africa in the form of the HONOR 200 Lite 5G.
The Chinese phone brand has begun sending out teasers to local media noting its imminent arrival, although the precise launch date and pricing is yet to be shared, with the company only explaining that it will be available to purchase in SA in the coming weeks.
“The next big leap in smartphone technology is about to hit South African shores. Global technology brand HONOR has announced that it will unveil the latest marvel in its iconic Number Series – the new HONOR 200 Lite,” it highlighted in a release to Hypertext.
“The eagerly anticipated release promises to redefine the mobile experience thanks to groundbreaking AI capabilities, stunning portrait photography, and an elegant, state-of-the-art, user-friendly design,” it added.
The company has emphasised the camera performance in particular, with a large 108MP offering being the primary lens on the rear of the phone. It is paired with a 5MP wide-angle option, and 2MP macro lens to complete the trio.
The front facing option is quite well specced too, being a 50MP lens. “Packed with a Selfie Light, the front camera brings artistic light effects, creating 3D portraits that bring users’ selfies to life,” added HONOR.

While we do not have a precise date for the launch of this new mid-range device, as has been the case in recent months, local retailer Cellucity has jumped the gun and posted the phone on its website for waitlisting alongside recommended pricing.
To that end, it is listed at R8 499, but it is unclear whether this is a pre-launch price or the actual one when the phone is officially released in SA.
For now though, there is a mid-range device to consider in a space that grows increasingly competitive. This is bad news for rival brands, but great news for cost savvy local consumers.
