The all-new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is officially on sale in South Africa, the Japanese car maker confirmed this week.
Toyota is bringing three different variants and four models to SA, all of which feature a a 150kW 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine.
This is paired with a new eight-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission, and gives the 4×4 enough power to pull loads up to 3 500kg. There is the choice of either five or seven-seat configurations for the interior too.
The company also notes that it has placed a bigger emphasis with this latest iteration on offering great on-road and off-road capabilities and performance.
“More than 70 years on from the launch of the original Toyota BJ, the all-new Land Cruiser Prado is returning to its origins with a focus on its core quality as a vehicle you can trust to take you to your destination, and bring you home again, even in the toughest conditions,” Toyota shared in a release with Hypertext.
Unpacking the different options, Toyota explains that the TX variant features a fully leather-upholstered cabin, driver and passenger seat heating, heated steering wheel, heads-up display, and a wireless charging station.
The VX-R option features the above, but also adds a digital rearview mirror, and a larger infotainment screen.
As for the First Edition, it is described as the pinnacle of the all-new Land Cruiser lineup, which is why it is available only in limited numbers and for a limited period, although Toyota South Africa has not confirmed that those precise numbers are, nor when the period ends.
To distinguish the First Edition from the TX and VX-R, you need only to look at the classic round headlamps versus the rectangular shape found on the other models.
