Samsung has more than a dozen new models of smart TVs that it is bringing to South Africa for its 2024 lineup. The company revealed the new offerings at its Experience Store located in Design Quarter in Johannesburg this week, with it forming part of its Unbox and Discover 2024 event.
As with much of the consumer electronics revealed this year, the new smart TVs promise improved visuals and sound compared to the previous range, but also enhancements thanks to the Samsung-made AI chipsets found within.
To that end the company showcased new Neo QLED 8K and 4K TVs, OLED TVs, and sound devices.
“We are expanding the limits of home entertainment by incorporating AI to transcend traditional viewing experiences. This year’s TV line-up showcases our dedication to innovation, delivering products that not only of premium viewing quality but also significantly enrich our consumers’ lifestyles,” noted said Mike van Lier (pictured below), VP of the Consumer Electronics at Samsung South Africa, in a release shared with Hypertext.

Looking at the new lineup, the standout offering is the flagship Neo QLED 8K TV. Along with coming in 65″, 75″, and 85″ variants, it is equipped with the Samsung’s latestNQ8 AI Gen3 processor. The South Korean firm says this processor features a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that delivers along an eightfold increase in neural networks from 64 to 512.
“With 8K AI Upscaling Pro, users’ favourite shows and movies are transformed to closely match the 8K display, allowing them to enjoy the level of details and picture clarity that surpasses conventional 4K TVs,” Samsung noted of the new functionality on this particular model.
“Additionally, AI Motion Enhancer Pro makes fast action smoother and clearer — a dream for sports fans — while Real Depth Enhancer Pro adds a lifelike depth to the picture and pulls viewers into the scene every time. All these features come together to redefine the big screen experience,” it continued.
Samsung has also integrated AI-focused compute on its 4K Neo QLED smart TVs for 2024, as they are powered by the NQ4 AI Gen2 processor.
“Enhanced by Real Depth Enhancer Pro and Quantum Matrix Technology, the screen ensures impeccable contrast even in complex scenes. With the world’s first Pantone Validated display for colour accuracy and Dolby Atmos for an immersive audio experience, Neo QLED 4K sets the bar for the ultimate 4K UHD experience. Neo QLED 4K will be available in sizes ranging from 55 to 98 inches, catering to diverse viewing environments,” the company pointed out.
