SchoolCentral and rAge to partner on more local esports initiatives

  • SchoolCentral has announced a partnership with rAge Expo around the development of esports skills locally.
  • The pair plan to launch several esports-focused initiatives and events moving forward.
  • The partnership also aims to create a larger esports community within SA’s school environment.

In recent years we have seen local esports being taken more seriously, particularly within the High School environment. So much so that some schools offer scholarships in esports. It’s no surprise then that SchoolCentral has announced a partnership with rAge Expo on the development of more esports initiatives moving forward.

For those unfamiliar with SchoolCentral, it is an edutech services provider that specialises in online platforms for schools, having also created an esports-focused division of the company.

Now it is looking to further push its capabilities within the local school esports space by partnering with rAge Expo, which of course has decades of experience when it comes to organising competitive gaming events.

“This collaboration marks a significant step towards fostering a vibrant e-sports community and providing valuable opportunities for skill-building and career growth in the gaming industry,” SchoolCentral noted in a release sent to Hypertext.

Recently the pair were involved with an E-Sports LAN Party at Dainfern Golf Estate, where discussions with the University of the Witwatersrand’s Johannesburg esports team on potential partnership opportunities were held.

“We are excited to support SchoolCentral in their mission to develop e-sports skills. Our collaboration aims to provide students and gamers with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed in this dynamic field,” enthused Michael James, project manager for rAge Expo.

“This partnership with rAge Expo is a significant milestone for us. We look forward to working together to create impactful learning experiences and drive the growth of e-sports in our community,” added Roy Wasonga, director of SchoolCentral.

While we can expect the pair to feature something at rAge Expo later this year, they also add that the partnership will extend beyond the showpiece event, “with continuous efforts to nurture gaming talent and provide platforms for learning and growth in e-sports,” the release concluded.
