SPEEDRUN – Acer eyes local monitor production

Acer South Africa held an event for local media this week to highlight some of its plans over the coming months.

Key among them was the intent to manufacture more products locally, starting with selected models of PC monitor next month at a factory in Boksburg. The goal of the undertaking is to make more affordable devices available in SA featuring Acer’s logo and technology.

“The first locally-made screens to hit South Africa from Acer will be 24″ and 27″ monitors which will be available at most retailers in South Africa… The second iteration, that will be go into full production in August/September will be the commercial monitor range,” Luis Monzon reported for Hypertext.

“We’re going to kick off with a 27″ gaming monitor for the end of the year, and that really aims to position Acer to be able to break down some of the barriers for the latest technology being made locally, as the type of monitor – QHD, 4K-type of the monitor – requires a bit more attention,” added Glen Du Toit, Acer country manger for SA.

Along with the plan from Acer to bring more local manufacturing, this morning’s SPEEDRUN roundup features stories covering the current Monkeypox outbreak in SA, City Power frustrating Joburg with load reduction, the prospect of prolonged water outages in Gauteng, and how Bungie stuck the landing with The Final Shape.
