SPEEDRUN – Future afronauts on the cards?

BRICS nations have been meeting with increasing regularity regarding space exploration. In particular South Africa and the other member states have held summits focused on a Joint Committee on Space Cooperation.

While it still remains to be seen what these efforts yield, the prospect of having more South African afronauts other than Mark Shuttleworth is now more of a possibility.

We are still some ways from that happening, but the South African space agency (SANSA) has noted that efforts are underway to ensure the respective space agencies from each BRICS nation collaborate more closely.

“We see the Russian proposal to create a BRICS space council. We will develop our cooperation in this direction; South Africa supports this initiative,” said Humbulani Mudau, SANSA CEO.

The efforts of Russia are well known, and more recently the likes of China and India have increased their pursuits in space, so well SA be next? Time will tell.

As for the other stories we’ve curated for this morning’s SPEEDRUN, we have chosen new AI certifications from AWS, Multichoice’s tough financial year, a new mid-range phone from HONOR, and a LEGO/Hasbro Bumblebee figure that has drawn mixed reactions.
