The best trailers from the Xbox Games Showcase 2024

  • Microsoft held its Xbox Games Showcase 2024 event this weekend for Summer Game Fest.
  • Some of the most notable reveals included DOOM: The Dark Ages, Gears of War: E-Day, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
  • There were no real surprises, however, or new upcoming titles to make you sit up and take notice.

The dust has now settled from the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. With Summer Game Fest now replacing E3 as the gaming event for the middle of each year, Xbox used its Games Showcase to highlight its most hotly anticipated offerings, as well as reveal some new properties.

We say new, but many of the biggest reveals on the day were for existing IP, such as DOOM: Dark Ages, which looks as slick, brutal, and insane as the two recent Bethesda offerings, both of which hit it out of the park in terms of what a high-paced, violent, first-person shooter was capable of.

Details for this title are few and far between, but it looks to be set in a time before the events of the aforementioned games. In terms of a release, it is slated for 2025, and that is about it. Oh, forgot to mention they have demon dragons now…

Another “new” title that leverages existing IP is Gears of War: E-Day. We got a fantastic looking cinematic trailer that is said to use in-engine footage from Unreal Engine 5.

“We’ll follow younger versions of the series’ original heroes, Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, as they begin their fight against the Locust invasion. This event is the catalyst for everything we know and love about Gears of War,” a blog post for the announcement shares.

One of the other big reveals on the day was Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which is set in 1991 and if the The Prodigy’s Firestarter featured in the trailer is anything to go by, the game will be leaning heavily on 90s influences.

“In true Black Ops fashion, the fictional story builds on the history of the time, thrusting you into a strange and clandestine conspiracy where a shadowy force has infiltrated the U.S. government. Anyone who resists is branded as a traitor, forcing players to go rogue for the first time to fight the very machine that created them,” a description from Treyarch explains.

Other notable trailers from Xbox Games Showcase include Fable, Starfield: Shattered Space, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. We also got a few snippets of gameplay for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but are expecting a deeper dive from Ubisoft during its Summer Game Fest live stream this evening.
