• OPPO has made a new device within the Reno12 series available locally in the form of the Reno12 FS 5G.
• The device is available to purchase form today (2nd July).
• The FS is slightly lower specced version of the Pro model the company launched in SA last month.

Only two weeks ago OPPO launched the Reno12 Pro 5G in South Africa, teasing at the time that a pair of devices also part of the Reno12 series would be arriving on our shores soon. Now one of those smartphones has landed in the form of the Reno12 FS 5G.

It is the slightly lesser specced version of the 12 Pro, and is available to purchase locally from today (2nd July) onwards.

“The Reno12 FS 5G  adds to the momentum while also ensuring that we are creating options for our customers. This iteration of the Reno12 series offers our intuitive AI technology across performance and photography, SuperVOOC Charging, and a sleek design at a price suited to the customer’s pocket,” noted Liam Faurie, head of go-to-market and operations at OPPO South Africa, in a release shared with Hypertext.

So what is this device sporting?

We mentioned that it is a lesser specced model, but that may be a bit of an injustice based on the hardware and specification on offer.

To that end, the Reno12 FS 5G sports the same AI-powered functionality that its Pro brethren does. Namely AI Recording Summary, AI Writer, AI Eraser 2.0, and Smart Image Matting 2.0.

This capability, along with support for 5G connectivity, is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset. Added to this is 12GB RAM and 512GB onboard storage, as well as a large 5 000mAh battery.

OPPO says this unit delivers up to can provide up to 1.94 days of power under regular use, which is equivalent to 13.95 hours of non-stop TikTok streaming if that’s your thing. The company explained that it is also able to maintain optimal performance for over four years of everyday use. The battery supports 45W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge too, which enables a full 100 percent charge in 71 minutes, along with 10 minutes of charge yielding up to 7 hours of music playback or more than 6 hours of call time.

Other elements worth include a 50MP primary camera on the rear, as well as a 32MP camera up front for selfies.

As for recommended pricing, OPPO South Africa says the Reno12 FS 5G sells for R12 999 or from R549 on contract from selected retail partners.
