- Paramount+ has confirmed that it will no longer continue producing the live-action Halo series.
- The series is reportedly being shopped around to other outlets.
- With a rumoured production cost of $10 million per episode, the news isn’t all that surprising.
After just two seasons, Paramount+ has called time on the live-action Halo series.
This isn’t all that surprising given that it cost a rumoured $10 million to produce an episode, but didn’t really generate the hype or interest a show such as Game of Thrones – which cost a similar price per episode – did.
While the cancellation was a rumour, Paramount+ confirmed Halo wouldn’t be getting another season with Variety.
‘Paramount+ can confirm that ‘Halo’ will not move forward with a third season on the service,” the platform said.
“We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, his fellow executive producers, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work. We wish everyone the best going forward,” it added.
While Master Chief’s future at Paramount+ is no more, the rumour mill in Hollywood suggests that Xbox, Amblin TV and 343 Industries are shopping the series to other outlets.
“We deeply appreciate the millions of fans who propelled the ‘Halo’ series to be a global success and we remain committed to broadening the ‘Halo’ universe in different ways in the future,” 343 Industries told Variety.
Where Halo will end up, if it ends up anywhere at all, is very much unknown at this stage. If we were the betting sort, we’d wager that Amazon may pick it up given the overwhelming success of the Fallout series.
How the series would continue is an unknown as well. We suspect that any platform that picks up the rights to the show will start from a fresh base rather than trying to continue the story Paramount began to tell.
At least we still have Halo Infinite to get our Master Chief fix.
