Shoprite Cash & Carry stores launch online portal for bulk purchases

  • Small retailers and spaza shop owners can now place bulk orders with Shoprite Cash & Carry online.
  • Delivery is free if within a 50km radius and orders placed before 12:00 will be delivered on the same day.
  • This offer should help reduce costs for small retailers and reduce the need to overstock items.

Small retailers and spaza shop owners will be pleased to learn that Shoprite Cash & Carry now offers an online portal where owners can shop and order items in bulk and have them delivered.

What’s more is that if the delivery is within 50km of the nearest store, delivery is free. We should note that there will be charge for deliveries placed from further away.

  • 51km – 60km: R210
  • 61km – 150km: R280 for every 10km
  • 150km+: To be discussed with store

Orders will be delivered the same day if placed by 12:00 within the 50km radius. Otherwise, deliveries will take 1 – 3 business days if placed after 15:00 and if outside the 50km radius.

This essentially removes the cost of travel and transport for store owners which is particularly important for shop owners in the informal sector. It also means store owners don’t need to overstock and can place orders and have them delivered as and when they need them.

“The new Cash & Carry digital platform provides customers with reliable and visible stock access and delivery services that eliminate the need to store excess inventory, frees up much needed cash flow, and gives business owners more time on the shop floor to focus on their customers and business growth,” says head of B2B Ecommerce at the Shoprite Group, Mark Cotton.

“We are committed to supporting small businesses by providing innovative solutions to the specific problems these enterprises face,” adds Cotton.

Purchases can be made with credit and debit cards, EFT, store credit, cash on delivery and via Shoprite Money Market accounts. Shoppers can even take advantage of savings and special offers made available through Shoprite Group’s Xtra Savings Club.

This online system also benefits Cash & Carry’s in-store traders allowing them to log in, access customer and product information in order to fulfil orders with greater efficiency.

Online shopping is a growing area for Shoprite group. Earlier this year the retailer announced that online sales grew 63.1 percent and this is only set to grow with the addition of bulk shopping through Cash & Carry.
