Streaming dominates 2024 Emmy nominations

  • The 76th Emmy Awards nominations have been revealed by the Television Academy.
  • Shows from Netflix, Apple TV+, Prime Video, HBO Max and Peacock have all received a nod this year.
  • The awards are set to talk place on 15th September in Los Angeles.

On Wednesday the nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards were announced by the Television Academy. The nominations were voted on by a stronghold of 22 000 members of the academy.

The nominations are said to highlight the cream of the crop whether it be performers, producers, writers, directors, craftspeople and other professionals. All shows nominated aired between 2023 and 2024.

The headline for this year is The Bear which has received 23 nominations in the Comedy category while Shōgun recieved 25 nominations in the Drama category. There are also as many as 36 nominees who appear for the first time. These include Richard Gadd from Baby Reindeer, Eric André from The Eric Andre Show and Matt Berry from What We Do In The Shadows.

What we find interesting is how well-represented streaming platforms are in 2024. Shows from Netflix, Apple TV+, Prime Video, HBO Max and Peacock have all received a nomination, highlighting just how pervasive streaming has become and how quickly regular television has been replaced.

“Television delivers stories that connect us, uplift us, challenge us, and always entertain us. Today, I am honored to celebrate the outstanding work of our extraordinarily talented and hardworking creative community,” said Television Academy Chair, Cris Abrego. “This morning’s Emmy nominations are a testament to their contributions and highlight the incredible programming that has risen to the
top of an exceptional year in TV.”
