TikTok Sound Search lets you find a song just by humming it

  • TikTok recently began rolling out a new feature called Sound Search.
  • As the name suggests, it will allow users to search for songs on the platform by singing or humming them.
  • Once you have submitted the audio clip you want to search, the platform will show you the song, as well as any videos that make use of it.

Despite being given an ultimatum by the United States government to be divested or face suspension in the country, TikTok is still quite happy to roll out new features to users. The latest could prove rather useful in the form of Sound Search.

As TechCrunch reported, the new feature was recently rolled out to selected users at the weekend, and should make its way to a wider TikTok community in the coming weeks and months.

If you don’t have access to the feature yet, the way it works is rather simple, and quite handy if you ask us.

Similar to what Shazam and YouTube Music currently offers users, Sound Search allows you to sing or hum a song that’s on the tip of your tongue, but simply cannot remember or know the name of.

It will also bring up any short format videos that feature the song you have been manically looking for.

What makes the TikTok created tool a little more interesting, however, is the fact that it is not limited to viral songs. It can be used for sound clips or specific types of audio in order to find out the origins of the material, as well as any other content on the platform that makes use of it.

While we have not tested it out for ourselves, TechCrunch notes that it was able to find all clips that featured Rihanna’s Umbrella by humming the tune, as well as finding the “oh no, oh no, oh no no no no” meme by simply repeating the words.

It is indeed a useful feature, and while it remains to be seen whether it usurps Shazam in terms of being the most popular music searching tool at the moment, it should certainly help users stay on TikTok instead of firing up another app when they’re racking their brain to remember or find out a song.

As noted, this feature is for selected users at the time of writing, but is expected to rollout fully soon.

Either way, when it comes to keeping up with whatever is viral of trending on the platform, Sound Search should certainly prove helpful.
