Uber adds ability to check rides in cities other than your own

  • Uber has announced a new set of features, which includes the ability to check rides in other cities.
  • The new features are being rolled out ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris later this month.
  • It is also designed to assist those planning trips overseas to see how prices of rides differ across cities worldwide.

Later this month, 26th July to be more precise, the 2024 Olympic Games get underway in Paris. With the French capital expected to see many tourists and athletes in the following weeks, Uber has announced the rollout of a new set of features with those travelling in mind.

“With millions of tourists expected to visit Paris this summer, these updates are meant to take the guesswork out of your travel so you can spend less time stressing and more time exploring,” Uber explained in a blog post.

Moving forward, you will now be able to check rides in other cities from your own, in order to find out how much it would cost. This would particularly helpful for those travelling from airports to their accommodation, as well as for those planning to enjoy local culture and beverages in the evenings.

More than 10 000 cities will be searchable via the new set of features.

“With this new feature, riders will now be able to see insights into the average wait time and cost of a ride from all local airports and within a given city. Plus, you’ll have the option to reserve rides for upcoming trips. Just tap ‘where to?’ and select ‘search in a different city’ to get started,” it added.

Another new feature is aimed at those who file with Air France and KLM under the Flying Blue loyalty program.

Here Flying Blue members to earn miles when using Uber throughout France and the Netherlands. Uber adds that the partnership will allow both local residents and visitors alike being eligible to earn 1 Flying Blue Mile for every €1 spent on Uber rides, with it rising to 2 miles for every €1 spent for Uber customers who take four or more trips each month.

“Riders can then use their Flying Blue Miles to reserve or upgrade flights, book hotel rooms, shop with participating brands, and more. Link your account in Settings to start earning miles on Uber rides,” the company pointed out.

The other features, which are specifically focused on Paris and France, are special offers via the Uber Bubbles and Uber Cruise offerings.

More details about each of these can be found here, but the addition of the ability to check rides in other cities should prove useful to all Uber users, even if they aren’t planning to travel and simply curious to see the differences.
