- Firewalk Studios is opening up beta access to its Overwatch clone, Concord, this weekend.
- It is only available for players on PS5 and PC with 5v5 matches.
- It is also freely accessible to all PlayStation Plus members this weekend.
On 23rd August, developer Firewalk Studios will finally release its Overwatch-style first-person team shooter Concord. Before that, however, it is trying to get players interested in the upcoming title, as well as familiar with its gameplay via a beta this weekend.
While reactions to the game have been mixed so far, what footage we have seen has looked slick, so it simply may be a case of coming too late to the 5v5 team FPS party.
Before we share our judgement, this weekend’s beta is for players on both PlayStation 5 and PC. Added to this is free access for those who have a PlayStation Plus membership and the current-gen console.
The Concord Beta Early Access weekend on PS5 and PC will begin this evening, 12th July, at 19:00 South African time. If you own a PS5, you can also pre-download the Concord Beta right now.
After this Early Access weekend, an Open Beta will begin next week, from Thursday 18th July at 19:00 SAST until through Sunday 21st July. To access on PS5 you will also be able to pre-download starting Wednesday 17th July at 19:00 SAST, the developer advised.
“Pre-ordering any edition of Concord will grant you access to the Beta Early Access weekend, as well as four extra codes you can share with friends so you can squad up with your own crew and take on rival crews together. Your extra codes will be for the same platform you pre-ordered on. Additionally, we’re excited that PlayStation Plus is also inviting all members to participate in the Beta Early Access weekend. Just look for the option to download and play the beta when you boot up your PS5,” shared Firewalk.
“During the Early Access and Open Beta, all 16 of our launch Freegunners will be unlocked and available to play and customize. Whether you want to snipe from afar, lock down an area, provide support for your teammates, or… just dive head-first into the fight, our roster of Freegunners has something for everyone. It’s been a minute since we’ve checked in with the Freegunners of the North Star, so we’ll also be sharing our first Vignette during our Early Access Beta and can’t wait for you to learn more about the crew and their tidy ship,” it added in a PlayStation Blog post.

Currently available for pre-order on PS5 and PC for R749, it will be interesting to see how this new IP fares, especially as the odds look stacked against its favour, but this beta weekend will prove a solid litmus test.
