GirlCode launches Pan-African Hackathon

  • GirlCode has announced its Pan-African Hackathon set to happen later this month.
  • The event aims to bring together talented female technologists from across the continent to develop innovative solutions.
  • Registrations for the Pan-African Hackathon are now open.

August is Women’s Month in South Africa, so it is only fitting that GirlCode, a local organisation focused on empowering women in technology has announced a new hackathon happening in a couple of weeks.

The Pan-African Hackathon, as the name would suggest, aims to bring together talented female technologists from across the continent to develop innovative solutions that address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

GirlCode has also been careful to point out that this upcoming hackathon would not be possible without the likes of its Gold Sponsors, which include Vumatel, Chenosis, NinetyOne, BET Software, iKhokha, VML, and Boxfusion.

It also highlighted the Takealot Group at its dedicated prize sponsor, providing laptops and tech hardware to the winning teams, along with headline sponsor Chenosis offering hackathon winners the opportunity to attend an International Women in Tech conference.

“The two-day intensive hackathon will provide participants with a unique opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals, learn from industry experts, and showcase their technical skills. By tackling pressing global challenges, participants will have the chance to create a positive impact on their communities and contribute to a more sustainable future,” explained GirlCode in a release sent to Hypertext.

“We are thrilled to host our first Pan-African all women hackathon and provide a platform for women to shine. By bringing together top talent and industry leaders, we aim to inspire and empower the next generation of female technologists,” added Zandile Mkwanazi, CEO of GirlCode.

Registrations for the Pan-African Hackathon are now open, with those interested in finding out more advised to head here.
