Next Apple iPhone event reportedly set for 10th September

  • According to Bloomberg, Apple is readying to host an iPhone event on 10 September.
  • The Cupertino-based company is also expected to make the devices available for sale on 20th September.
  • Some new elements for the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup include a dedicated button for taking photos.

As we reach the end of August, for Apple fans it’s getting close to that time of the year when a new lineup of iPhone devices will be showcased by the Cupertino-based company.

While the official date for a new iPhone event has not been detailed by Apple at the time of writing, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, we can expect to see the new lineup revealed on 10th September.

Normally we would take any rumours surrounding the iPhone with a grain of salt, Gurman’s recent track record in terms of accurately reporting on rumours leads us to think he’s right when it comes to the date of the next iPhone event.

Along with noting that Apple has earmarked the second week of next month to debut its latest mobile hardware, Gurman says that the iPhone 16 series will be available for pre-order in selected markets on the same day, and that they will ship to customers in certain regions on 20th September.

Whether South Africa will be included in the first wave remains to be seen, but in recent years, iStore SA and other retailers have moved quickly to get the latest iteration of Apple smartphone into the country.

How competitors will react to any announcements made during the event, remains to be seen, with the reported 10th September date happening a little after the dust settles at IFA 2024, where the likes of HONOR are readying to launch new hardware too.

As for what the iPhone 16 series will sport, Gurman points to a dedicated button in order to take photos on the hardware side of things, along with a deeper dive into Apple Intelligence, which has been delayed in terms of its initial rollout.

While there is not much talk of the silicon that will power this series, given how much Apple is focusing on AI, it will be interesting to see what its latest batch of processors will be able to support from a generative AI perspective.

The iPhone 16 will not be the only hardware showcased on the day, according to Bloomberg, with a new thinner Apple Watch with larger display anticipated, as well as the next iteration of AirPods being touted.
