Gamescom 2024 kicked off last night, and this may be some recency bias, but it did not disappoint. In fact, we’d argue that it was better than the first evening of Summer Game Fest, as we got some surprise announcements, gameplay deep dives, and other gaming content to look forward to in the form of Secret Level.
Our thoughts on Geoff Keighley aside, there was plenty to fawn over.
With that in mind, we’ve rounded up the best game trailers from the night, along with detailing when they are expected to be release, and which platform they will do so. While there was not a platform seller in our view, there are plenty of upcoming AAA titles to get excited about.
Added to this was the announcement of Borderlands 4, which comes at a time when the live action movie has performed very poorly at the cinemas. Expected to release some time in 2025, it should hopefully erase the movie from memory.
Another trailer that piqued our interest was Batman: Arkham Shadow, the Meta VR game that sees players don the famous cowl virtually. While the gameplay was relatively slick, how that will translate to the actual gaming experience remains to be seen, especially as our past experiences with VR titles has been mixed to say the least.
