Acer and Syntech working to bring more Chromebooks to SA

  • Acer has announced a partnership with Syntech to make access to Chromebooks across the SADC region easier.
  • The partnership is part of Acer’s plans to expand its footprint in the African continent.
  • It will also enable resellers to have access to Acer’s range of Google for Education and Google Enterprise solutions.

Acer Africa has big designs for the South Africa and the rest of the Southern Africa (SADC) region, with its lineup of Chromebook laptops set to play an integral role moving forward. To bring this to Chromebooks vision to fruition, Acer has announced a partnership with local technology distributor, Syntech.

Acer explains that it has been working closely with its education partners within the SADC to help transform the educational landscape, particularly in the deployment of Google for Education solutions since the launch of Chromebooks locally in 2011.

“The company’s commitment to not only bringing evolving hardware technologies to schools and institutions, but also continually driving thought leadership within the sector has fostered meaningful, inclusive, and engaging learning experiences,” it highlighted in a release shared with Hypertext.

While the focus for the partnership will be around the distribution of Google-powered Chromebooks, Acer has confirmed that Syntech will carry the full range of the Taiwanese company’s commercial products for the resellers that they service.

“Our mission at Syntech is to enrich the lives of people in Africa through technology, and this partnership with Acer and Chromebooks clearly aligns with our purpose. We’re excited and committed to helping the next generation of South Africans realise their greatest potential,” enthused co-founder and sales and marketing director at Syntech, Ryan Martyn.

Acer added that the partnership with Syntech will provide it with access to more countries in the SADC region, and potentiallystrengthening its market position. The collaboration will also enable resellers to have access to Acer’s range of Google for Education and Google Enterprise solutions.

“We are excited about partnership with Syntech because their values align so closely to ours, that is to bridge the gap between people and technology. Their hands-on approach provides an agility and openness to drive new initiatives that we at Acer are moving towards as we continue our repositioning strategy that began in 2023. Their strong distribution network and market expertise make them an ideal partner for us,” noted Glenn Du Toit, country manager for Acer Africa.

“We believe that this collaboration will enable us to be more customer-centric, allowing us a platform to reach more customers and provide them with our innovative edge computing devices be they Chrome OS or Microsoft,” he concluded.
