Sony reveals likely PS5 Pro design ahead of launch

  • Sony is widely expected to officially announce the PS5 Pro in the coming weeks, if not days.
  • PlayStation sent a 30th Anniversary celebratory post on Instagram with the caption “Your first look” and fans spotted a mysterious unknown console in the image
  • This console is similar to leaked sketches of the potential final design of the PS5 Pro.

According to the media swirl, the PlayStation (PS) 5 Pro console is set to be launched by the end of this year, and Sony may have finally acknowledged its existence. The upgraded version of the PS5 has yet to be officially revealed by the Japanese brand, but it may have done so in its marketing for PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary.

Sony posted a celebratory image to its Instagram account with a caption that read “Your first look.” The image contains all the PlayStation devices released so far and one machine stands out, a square-like box with a few diagonal lines carved into it.

The anniversary image has this mystery console as opposed to the PlayStation 4 Pro, which may be another hint.

The images were initially spotted by insane fans on social media, and soon the media got wind and started relating these images with the latest leaks circulating.

French-language publication Dealabs published leaked designs of the potential PS5 Pro last week, saying that they were able to get a visual of the front of the final packaging box of the upcoming console, from which they were able to visually reproduce a rendering.

The publication says that the console appears similar to the PS5 Slim, with the same white colour of the exterior facade. The two USB-C ports and the power button are also present at the front of the console.

Primarily, the immediate differences begin with the three black stripes on the middle of the console, diagonally, which is similar to the official images Sony released on the 30th Anniversary posts. Dealabs says the other visual difference is that the PS5 Pro appears thicker than the PS5 Slim, likely due to the hardware the console packs in.

The consensus is that the PS5 Pro is set to be officially announced this month, with The Verge going as far to report that, citing developers, that all games released on or after 16th September need to support the PS5 Pro.

It is likely that the next major Sony presentation, which could be any day now, will feature the PS5 Pro’s launch.
