- Uber South Africa has announced a wholly unique experience for its platform with Uber Safari.
- It will offer a full-day safari experience in partnership with Aquila Private Game Reserve, just outside Cape Town.
- It has been launched locally as part of Uber’s Go Anywhere series.
Uber has announced the launch of a once-in-a-lifetime experience for its customers in Cape Town, South Africa. The new experience is called Uber Safari, and as the name would suggest, it will be a wildlife focused offering from the ridesharing platform.
It is the latest addition in Uber’s ‘Go Anywhere’ series of limited-edition travel products.
Uber explains that the new experience will be available exclusively in the Uber app from 1st October 2024 to 1st February 2025.
“Uber Safari is the perfect day trip for people in Cape Town looking to see the big five (lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards, and rhinos). In partnership with Aquila Private Game Reserve, one of South Africa’s most popular wildlife conservancies, riders will have the chance to book an affordable, luxurious and seamless safari,” the ridesharing platform noted in a release shared with Hypertext.
“We’ve designed our ‘Go Anywhere’ series to help our customers book bucket list adventures with the Uber convenience they know and love. With Uber Safari – one of our most wild offerings to date – our Reserve technology makes it easier than ever to unlock an epic South African travel experience,” added Frans Hiemstra, regional general manager of Uber in the Middle East and Africa (MEA).
The full day trip includes a pickup in Cape Town in an Uber Safari-branded vehicle. Upon arrival at Aquila, guests will be welcomed by a toast and lunch before boarding a traditional safari vehicle with experienced game rangers and field guides. During the game drive, guides will ensure guests have the best opportunity to see the big five, according to organisers. After the drive, those who purchase this experience will have access to Aquila’s grounds before heading back to Cape Town.
“We’re excited to partner with Uber to extend our bucket list wildlife experiences to their customers. Uber Safari allows folks to book and enjoy an unforgettable day at Aquila, where they’ll get to experience the Big 5 in an easy and luxurious way. It’s the perfect combination of modern convenience and natural beauty, all while supporting wildlife conservation efforts that are vital to preserving South Africa’s biodiversity,” noted Johan van Schalkwyk, commercial officer of Aquila Collection.
Reservations for the experience will become available in the Uber app on 1st October 2024 as mentioned, and will be bookable 24 hours to 90 days in advance.
Uber Safari will run on Fridays and Saturdays until 1st February 2025, at a flat fee cost of $200 (~R3 423), and can accommodate up to four guests.
Accessing the experience within the Uber app is as follows:
- “Download the Uber app on your smartphone and open the app.
- Select the ‘Uber Safari’ icon from the home screen.
- Read about Uber Safari and then choose an available date.
- Enter your pickup and dropoff locations.
- Make sure everything looks right and click ‘Reserve Uber Safari.’
- If your trip is confirmed, you’ll receive an email letting you know. Enjoy.”
